GYA San Mateo County Launch Yesterday

The GYA launched yesterday in San Mateo County, California at Aragon High School. The turnout was okay–about fifty people–, but most everyone turned in membership applications and seemed enthusiastic about participating in the GYA from here on out, which is great. Among the people I talked to, there were representatives from the Green Academy in Woodside, Calif., a brand new high school within a high school focused on sustainability curricula; Sequoia High School in Redwood City, Calif., which is currently having students do water quality testing on a nearby creek and develop a composting program; and San Mateo County RecycleWorks (my friends Lillian Clark and Gerald Schwartz!), which is developing a green schools program in its own right.

This is exactly what the GYA seeks to do: get various organizations to input their own respective expertise, so that it is all easily accessible by everyone everywhere. I will provide more updates as we develop programs for high schools to implement next fall. Hopefully we will have video of yesterday's presentation up on our Vimeo account soon.
